During the first 2 weeks, be sure to rinse your mouth after each use (meals, drinking, smoking, etc.) with water. You can also rinse your mouth with an ALCOHOL FREE and hydrogen peroxide free mouthwash, but try not to exceed 3 times a day.
In order to minimize swelling, it is recommended to take anti-inflammatories. Sucking on an ice cube also helps reduce swelling and desensitize the wound. Make sure you sleep with a pillow that keeps your head higher than your heart.
It is absolutely essential to downsize your piercing after the swelling subsides. During the first days of healing, the wound will swell remarkably. The swelling will gradually decrease over the next 2 weeks. It is therefore important to downsize the piercing to avoid irritation.
Please avoid:
-
Avoid Oral sexual contact, including oral sex and kissing, while healing. An open wound promotes the transmission of diseases such as hepatitis and HIV.
-
Avoid chewing tobacco, gum, nails, pencils and other foreign objects that may harbor bacteria
-
Avoid sharing plates, cups and cooking utensils
-
Avoid using straws (this may increase the risk of swelling and bleeding).
-
Limit tobacco and vaping consumption (also cannabis). This increases the risks and prolongs the healing process.
-
Avoid aspirin, alcohol, and large amounts of caffeine while you are experiencing bleeding and swelling.
It is highly recommended to purchase a new toothbrush since a used one harbors bacteria.
Never use the following products on your piercings:
Isopropyl (rubbing Alcohol) or Peroxide, tea tree oil, antibiotic ointment or cream with Zinc Bacitracin base, aspirin or advil paste
